The
Association of Theoretical Geography - AGETEO is a non-profit
national scientific association. It was founded on the 4th of
March, 1971, at the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e
Letras, Rio Claro, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Its goal is to foster
research, to promote and to broadcast geographic knowledge.
Its
pioneers were Antonio Christofoletti, Antonio Olívio
Ceron, José Alexandre Felizola Diniz, Lívia
de Oliveira, Miguel Cézar Sanchez, Pérola Emília
Liberato, Élide Aparecida Chizzoti, Lucia Helena de
Oliveira Gerardi, José Carlos de Godoy Camargo and
Sérgio dos Anjos Ferreira Pinto.
AGETEO
released in August, 1971, the first issue of "Boletim
de Geografia Teorética", published twice a year
until December, 1995 (volume 25 - number 49/50).
The
first issue of Geografia was published in 1976, in partnership
with Hucitec Publishing. From 1978, AGETEO took over publishing
Geografia on its own. This journal is published three times
a year. In addition to scientific journals, AGETEO started
publishing books in 2000. The books focus on contemporary
issues in Geography. Four books have been published so far.
Membership
to AGETEO is open to individuals and institutions, not only
in Brazil, but throughout the world. Anyone can submit a paper
for publication in Geografia, whether members or not. The
only aspect considered in order to accept a paper to publish
is its scientific merit.
Geografia
is exchanged with 124 institutions in 28 countries.
